Food Blog Chatterbox 2/15/08

Every Friday, we skim the cyber soup to find the top food related blog posts for your reading pleasure!

It's Friday and here we are again with some tasty blog talk! With all the cold weather this time of year, my food cravings always search out ye olde stick-to-yer-ribs type fare. For example, the Hot Potato blog has a post titled Spaghetti Squash Love . I love the combination of fennel, apple, garlic, leeks, squash etc. -- it all hangs together in a way that truly captures the flavors of the season!

From the Pebble Soup blog comes a delightful recipe for Leek, Pancetta & Chevre Tartlets. This looks to be the perfect cocktail nosh if you're having a few friends over and want to break out a few bottles of wine. Hmmm... I'm not busy tonight, so this just might do the trick!

If snacks is where yer at, then check out this post from the Porcini Chronicles blog-- Butter Roasted Pecans. I love this nut (pecans, that is) and have not mentally relegated pecans to a dessert only format in my fevered brain-- this is a recipe that's great "as is" or you can monkey around with it (as I did) by adding a little cayenne or crushed red pepper to the mix... it makes a nice nosh either way so try it today!

The Yulinka Cooks blog has a wonderful recipe post titled Two Mushroom Recipes. I found the Marinated Mushroom recipe to be quite effective and put up a batch yesterday-- I have a feeling these s'hrooms might be my new favorite edibles. I like the way the recipes here were expressed-- not in the traditional list of ingredients way-- but rather like two cooks chatting on a train.

The I'm Never Full blog has a great adaptation of a Wolfgang Puck recipe for Hungarian Goulash that's a perfect fit for a winter menu. I'll be back for seconds, eh?

This week's Comfort Food of the Week Blue Ribbon Award goes to the Wild Schwein blog post Roast Corned Beef with potatoes, parsnips, onions and Yorkshire puddings. This is a traditional recipe which features a beautiful array of flavors. One can imagine sitting down and enjoying the warmth of this dish. Ah, life is good!

Thanks, mate! Life is especially good when you know there are others in the world who appreciate the simple (and often the best!) things in life - like a good roast dinner! It's a real honor to receive such praise from a distinguished chef like yourself. Keep up the great work.
