The blogger at wasabi cowgirl posted a wonderful recipe titled Barbecue Linguine. Some of the ingredients included fennel, sun dried tomatoes, fresh basil and balsalmic vinegar. A nice application of outdoor cooking as applied to what is usually considered an indoor dish (i.e. pasta). To view the recipe, go to Barbecue Linguine

From blogsoop.com comes an interesting post about granola and how it's image of being a healthy breakfast food isn't all that it's cracked up to be: "Granola experienced a popular resurgence in the 1960’s when fruits and nuts were added to it and it became popular with the ‘hippie movement’, but by then it had departed from its predecessors’ hearty and heart-healthy roots. Loaded with refined sugars and high in oil, granola packs a caloric punch and lacks fiber. As for the grain, rolled oats now take precedence over the bran-rich Graham flour - since they’re cheaper and easier to manufacture - and easier to coat in oils and sugars. One cup of Quaker Granola has as much as 40% of your day’s dose of saturated fat and rivals a McDonald’s Quarter Pounder in caloric content."

From the Muriella's Corner site is a post, titled The Chemicalization of the American Breakfast, which is also related to breakfast food that's well worth reading. Here's a taste: "...describes how the extrusion process used for these cereals destroys the fatty acids and even the chemical vitamins that are added at the end. The amino acids are rendered very toxic by this process and lysine, a crucial nutrient, is especially denatured by extrusion. This is how all the boxed cereals are made, even the ones sold in the health food stores. All dry cereals that come in boxes are extruded cereals."
