Food Blog Chatterbox 10/13/07

Every week, we scan the cyber soup to find the top food blog posts for your reading pleasure!

blog2.jpg The Garden Of Eating blog has a timely post on the recent Olive Oil controversy--i.e. a product manipulation fraud that's being perpetuated on foodies everywhere!  If you're particular about your ingredients, be sure to give Oy Vey, Evoo a read!

blog2.jpg From the Boston version of the Menu Pages blog comes a post called Are You A Food Snob? which celebrates food snobbery as a way of life.  Like the "we-are-the-only-people-who-know-what-good-food-is" attitude of the Top Chef reality tv cooking show, this culture of food snobbery reminds me of a bunch of "art critics" who stroll around a museum commenting on the paintings in front of them without really seeing them.  I personally find that this food establishment kind of crap reeks of craving membership in an exclusive clique, what do you think?  Pertinent Reference Point: "I would never belong to a club that would have me as a member." - Groucho Marx

blog2.jpg Mae's Food Blog follows up last week's What Did Mona Lisa Eat? post with another slice of food history, What Did Columbus Discover?  This is a detailed look at the food culture of the Old World which will leave you with much food for thought.

blog2.jpg Steve at the Sullicom blog captures the fall baseball fever that's in the air with an entertaining post called Cleveland Indians Mustard.  Being a great lover of condiments, I quite enjoyed the debate between which is better--Stadium Mustard or Ballpark Mustard.  Me?  I remember the sweet tang of the Stadium Mustard from my college days when we'd journey to Cleveland from Dayton to catch an Indians game, so that gets my vote.  Any Clevelanders out there who want to chime in on this issue?

blog2.jpg The Poulet Basquaise blog has an amusing post called The Albino Horror that centers around the trouble a cook can encounter when cooking white beets.  What I liked about this post is that it provides a look at a common issue we've all had to deal with when cooking---if a dish doesn't come out correctly, what can we do to make something interesting and tasty out of it!

blog2.jpg The folks over at the White Trash BBQ blog detail a recipe for cooking brisket which comes from the Extreme BBQ book.  One technique I never heard of before is discussed here--wrapping the brisket in red butcher paper instead of aluminum foil during the cooking process.  Pretty cool!  Be sure to check out BBQ Recipes: Bruce's Brisket!

blog2.jpg The Homesick Texan blog has a great post that features a casserole recipe called The King Of Casseroles: King Ranch Chicken that captures the simplicty involved in casserole cooking.  A dang good read!

Until next time, we'll keep scanning the cyber soup for more food news!
